Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that her government is set to introduce the ‘Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana’ in April 2026, which will take the place of the 2008 ‘Ladli Yojana’. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday (February 10), Gupta mentioned that this new scheme will be an enhanced version of the current ‘Delhi Ladli Yojana’ initiated by the Women and Child Development Department back in 2008. Through this initiative, girls in Delhi will receive financial support of Rs 1 lakh from the time they are born until they graduate.
The Chief Minister stated, “We will roll out the upgraded scheme on April 1st and phase out the old Ladli scheme.” CM Rekha Gupta explained that under the new program, the government will offer financial aid of up to ₹56,000 to each eligible girl. This funding will be distributed in installments according to various educational stages and age milestones, starting from birth and continuing through graduation or diploma completion.
The CM also mentioned that the funds invested through a structured financial instrument will accumulate over time and will be transferred directly into the beneficiary’s Aadhaar-linked bank account once they mature. He added that a dedicated digital portal for the scheme will be established soon. Gupta noted that the estimated financial outlay for implementing the upgraded scheme will be around ₹160 crore. Under this initiative, two girls from each family will be eligible for financial assistance.
Each household will benefit for 2 girls
Rekha Gupta said, “We will close the Ladli Yojana and in its place will open a new scheme called Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana. Under this, we will provide benefits to two girls of every girl child who is a resident of Delhi and whose family lives in Delhi. The amount will be increased by Rs 20,000.”
He said, “We have increased the amount from Rs 36,000 earlier to Rs 56,000. You get this maturity amount not after reaching 12th standard but after graduation, in which you will get at least Rs 1 lakh. Our effort will be to include all the daughters of Delhi who are eligible for this scheme. We will impose some conditions. If the parents marry the girl before the age of 18, then she will not get the benefit of this scheme.”
Plan to distribute Rs 100 crore
The Chief Minister said, “When we came to power, we discovered that funds for this scheme were lying unused in banks. Our government has identified approximately 41,000 beneficiary girls, to whom we plan to distribute Rs 100 crore.” He added, “This is an investment in the future of our girls and this country. No girl will miss out on education due to lack of funds.”
Gupta said that when the current government took office, it found that a large number of mature Ladli Yojana accounts were lying unclaimed. He said, “Over 1.86 lakh mature accounts were lying unclaimed, which means the funds meant for our daughters did not reach them on time.”
Who will get the benefit of the scheme?
The Chief Minister said the Ladli Scheme will now be known as the “Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana” to reflect a stronger version designed to have long-term impact. The scheme will apply to girls born in Delhi. Rekha Gupta said, “The scheme will be applicable to girls born in Delhi whose families have been living in the city for at least three years and whose annual family income does not exceed Rs 1.20 lakh. The benefit of the scheme is limited to two surviving girls per family.”
