Ladki Bahin Yojana: There is a big update for womens. In Maharashtra, social media has been buzzing with speculation that the Ladki Bahin Yojana might be coming to an end. These assertions have sparked worries among millions of women beneficiaries. However, state government minister Hasan Mushrif has now dispelled these rumors, confirming that the scheme is entirely secure and will persist.
Government’s response to rumors of scheme closure
Ajit Pawar faction leader and minister Hasan Mushrif made it clear that although the Ladki Behen Yojana has led to financial difficulties, it will not be terminated. He also refuted claims that the scheme was causing delays in salaries for government employees. Mushrif stated, “Maharashtra is a progressive state and this scheme will continue to support women.”
68 lakh accounts closed, e-KYC mandatory
It is important to note that a significant change in the scheme is that the government has shut down the accounts of around 6.8 million beneficiaries. The main reason for this action is the failure to complete the e-KYC process within the required timeframe. The number of active accounts has now fallen to 17.5 million. Regarding the budget, ₹26,000 crore has been set aside for 2026-27.
Complete e-KYC like this sitting at home

Accept the declaration by filling in other necessary details and finally submit the form.
With this clarification from the government, women can now breathe a sigh of relief. Keeping your Aadhaar updated is essential to benefit from the scheme.
Budget and beneficiary statistics
When examining the financial side of this program, the government allocates around Rs 3,700 crore to beneficiaries every month. Each qualified woman is granted a monthly support of Rs 1,500.
The budget for this initiative was set at Rs 36,000 crore for the fiscal year 2025-26, but it has been adjusted to Rs 26,000 crore for 2026-27. Recently, the government finalized the accounts of about 6.8 million beneficiaries. This action was mainly due to the inability to complete the required e-KYC process within the designated timeframe. Consequently, the number of active accounts has now decreased to roughly 17.5 million.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that this scheme would be verified on the very first day. Since then, this scheme has been being verified in various ways for the past one and a half years. It has been revealed that sisters have taken the benefit of this scheme without meeting the criteria. This includes sisters who are government employees, while it has been seen that sisters have taken the benefit of men. The deadline for verification was extended three times.
