8th Pay Commission- Major update for central government employees. More than 1 crore employees and pensioners of the central government may get a shock. Lakhs of government employees of the country are waiting for the 8th Pay Commission and salary hike. This wait may be longer. It may take till the end of 2027 or the beginning of 2028 to implement the suggestions of the 8th Pay Commission.
Why will it be late?
From the example of the 7th Pay Commission (7th CPC), it is estimated that the process will be long. At that time, it took about 2 years and 9 months from the announcement of the commission to the implementation of the recommendations. On this basis, it is being said that it is difficult for the recommendations of the 8th Commission formed in January 2025 to come by 2026 and be implemented in the same year.
In January 2025, the government announced the formation of the 8th Pay Commission. But more than six months have passed and the Terms of Reference (ToR) i.e. the framework of work or the official announcement of the chairperson and members of the commission has not been made yet. Due to this, the deadline is getting pushed further.
What was said on behalf of the government?
Minister of State in the Finance Ministry Pankaj Chaudhary said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha that the government has received suggestions from various parties and an official notification will be issued soon. He also said that the Commission will give its recommendations within the stipulated time frame, which will be decided after the ToR is issued.
The 7th Pay Commission was implemented in 2016 and according to it, salary revision came into effect from 1 January 2016. According to the 10-year cycle, the new commission was to come in 2024-25. But this time there is a delay. Both employees and pensioners are worried amid rising inflation.
Will we get the benefit till 2028?
Reports say that even if the government completes the formation of the commission now, the new recommendations will be implemented only in early 2028. However, it is not necessary that the timeline of the 8th Pay Commission remains exactly like the 7th.
