During the festival season, many people went back to their homes to celebrate the occasion with their families. Due to excess ticket demand, often some people do not get their confirm tickets. To solve the problem, railway has introduced a new way of ticket booking.
Aadhar card verification
If you want to book a ticket within the first 15 minutes of online booking opening, your IRCTC account will need to be verified with Aadhaar. This step has been taken to prevent ticket touting. Let’s learn more about this new rule and how you can link your Aadhaar to your IRCTC account. Railway Ministry has made it clear that from October 1, 2025, whenever online booking for general reservation opens, only those people whose IRCTC account is authenticated with Aadhaar will be able to book tickets for the first 15 minutes.
The government believes this will curb fraudulent elements and make it easier for both ordinary and genuine travelers to obtain confirmed tickets. This is a significant step that could further improve the ticket-booking experience. you should also know what hasn’t changed with this rule. If you purchase a ticket at a computerized railway PRS counter, the process will remain the same. Furthermore, the 10-minute restriction on authorized ticketing agents will remain in place, meaning they won’t be able to book tickets in the first 10 minutes. Now the biggest question is how to link your Aadhaar to your IRCTC account so that you don’t face any problems after the new rule comes into effect. The process is very simple. You just need to follow the steps below.
How to do?
To do this, first go to the IRCTC website in your web browser and log in with your username and password. Then, go to the ‘My account’ option above and select the ‘Authenticate User’ button. On the next screen, enter your 12-digit Aadhaar or Virtual ID number.
Before proceeding, please verify that your name, date of birth, and gender are correct. If there are any errors, use the Edit option. Once everything is correct, click the ‘Verify details and receive OTP’ option. A one-time password (OTP) will be sent to your registered mobile number.
Enter that OTP, read and accept the conditions in the box, and then press the Submit button. Once you’ve linked your Aadhaar card to your IRCTC account, you’ll see a green tick next to the ‘Authenticate user’ option when you log in again. After this verification, you can now book railway tickets online without any hassle.
