Indian Railways New Rule, This Mistake Can Cancel Your Seat

Indian Railways Rules: This is significant news for train travelers. It’s important to remember that many people book their seats ahead of time and think they are secure. However, the Railways will soon introduce a new seat allocation policy, which means your seat could be reassigned to someone else if you fail to arrive at your designated boarding station. Let’s delve into this further.

What was happening till now?

At present, if a passenger does not board the train at their assigned station, the TTE waits for them until the next stop. If the passenger is still absent there, their seat is then allocated to a waiting list or RAC passenger. This procedure can be quite time-consuming, often leaving seats unoccupied for extended periods.

What will change now?

With the new system, TTEs will no longer wait until the next station. Once ticket checking reveals that a passenger has not boarded at their boarding station, the TTE will promptly mark that seat as “not turned up” in the system. The seat will then be immediately assigned to a passenger holding a waiting list or RAC ticket. Most importantly, information about seat availability will be sent directly to passengers’ mobile phones, removing the need for them to repeatedly check with the TTE.

Why is the Railways making this change?

The purpose of this change is to ensure that every train seat is used effectively and fully. According to the Railways, around 3 to 5 percent of seats go unused on each train. This is often due to passengers canceling their trips or not arriving at the station on time. The new system will guarantee that these empty seats are quickly made available to other passengers. Railway officials believe this initiative will enhance the railway’s digital and modern systems. This will not only make things easier for passengers but also help reduce congestion inside trains.
