Train Cancelled: Severe cold and dense morning fog in North India has put the brakes on the speed of trains. Due to the weather conditions in the early months of 2026, Indian Railways has decided to completely cancel dozens of important trains for safety reasons. Trains running on key routes like Prayagraj, New Delhi, Howrah, and Amritsar will be off the tracks until February and March 2026.
Poor visibility due to dense fog has not only resulted in train cancellations, but many express trains are also running with delays of 4 to 6 hours. If you are planning a trip this month, be sure to check this new railway list so you don’t have to return empty-handed.
Why are Indian trains derailing
Dense fog poses a major challenge for Indian Railways during the winter season. When visibility drops to near zero, locomotive pilots have to maintain very slow train speeds for the safety of passengers. Due to this, the entire train schedule is disrupted.

According to the railway administration, selected trains are temporarily cancelled or their frequency reduced to reduce operational constraints and avoid excessive train delays. Passengers are requested to check the current status of their train on the railway helpline 139 before traveling.
Cancelled Trains for February-March 2026
According to a notification issued by the railway, trains number 14112 and 14111 running between Prayagraj Junction and Muzaffarpur have been cancelled until February 25, 2026. Similarly, the Veerangana Laxmibai Express (22198/22197) running between Jhansi and Kolkata will be suspended from service between the end of February and March 1. The famous Upasana Express (12327/12328) running from Howrah to Dehradun has also been derailed until February 28.
Trains 14003 and 14004, connecting Delhi to Malda Town, will also remain cancelled until the last week of February. The Harihar Express (14523/14524), connecting Bihar and Punjab, and the Janseva Express (14617/14618) from Purnia Court to Amritsar have also been affected by fog and have been cancelled until early March.
Several important trains (15620, 15619, 15621, 15622) running between Kamakhya, Anand Vihar, and Gaya are also included in the list of cancellations this month. Additionally, trains such as Hatia-Anand Vihar (12873) and Tata-Amritsar (18103) will also remain suspended from February 25th to 27th.
Long Delays and Route Diversions
In addition to canceled trains, even those that are running are failing to meet punctuality. Many superfast trains on the Delhi-Howrah and Delhi-Mumbai routes are running late by 30 minutes to 4 hours. In some cases, where visibility is very low, trains have been diverted, increasing travel time by up to 6 hours.

Railway stations are witnessing a heavy rush of passengers, and long queues are forming at enquiry counters. The administration has advised passengers to arrive at the station early and allow sufficient time between connecting trains.
Ticket Refunds and Railway Appeal
If your train has been canceled by the Railways, there is no need to panic. Passengers who booked tickets online will receive a full refund automatically in their bank accounts. Meanwhile, passengers who purchased tickets over the counter will need to claim a refund at the station counter within the stipulated time from the cancellation date. The railway department has urged passengers to use digital means and check the SMS message received on their registered mobile phone before arriving at the station.
