RAC on Indian Railway: This is important news for those who travel by train. If you are also planning to travel by train and your ticket is also RAC, then know what does this RAC (RAC Ticket) mean? And on whose tickets is RAC written… Apart from this, do you get a seat in the train with RAC ticket or not… Know about all the questions related to RAC here-
What is RAC?
The full form of RAC is Reservation Against Cancellation. It means that if someone’s ticket gets cancelled then you will get the entire seat, but till then you will only get a seat to sit. Let us tell you that in case of RAC, 2 passengers have to sit on one seat. If you have RAC status, you do not get a seat to sleep. If 2 people get one seat and one of them cancels his reservation, then the other passenger gets the entire seat.
What should passengers do if they are on waiting list?
Let us tell you that this happens only when the ticket is on RAC. If your ticket status shows waiting then you cannot sit in the reservation compartment. In this situation, you will have to go to the general compartment to travel by train. But many people ask that when the seats are not available then why does the railway charge the full fare? The answer to this is that the railway does not just provide you a seat but the complete service of transporting you from one place to another. Just like when you travel by bus or flight, there also if you do not get the seat of your choice, you still have to pay the full fare. Similarly, in trains also the fare is fixed for the journey, not just according to the seat.
Another big reason is that if your RAC seat gets confirmed during the journey, then in that case the railways will have to prepare a complete process to charge you extra fare separately. There will also be technical and administrative challenges associated with this. Currently, there is no such system that if the seat is confirmed, the remaining amount can be taken from you in the middle of the journey. This is the reason why the railways charge the full fare in advance. In a crowded country like India where the waiting list in trains is long, people are satisfied even if they get half a seat by getting an RAC ticket, because they get permission to travel.
