This hydrogen-powered train traveled between Jind and Sonipat in Haryana. This roughly 90-kilometer stretch has become the first in the country to trial this innovative technology. Just yesterday, on February 25th, the inaugural trial run of the country’s first hydrogen-powered train occurred on this route. Soon, regular hydrogen trains will be seen operating along this path.

This will be the speed of the hydrogen train

The train’s standout feature is its emission-free operation and low noise levels. It utilizes electrochemical technology to produce energy from hydrogen fuel cells. The train will be powered by hydrogen derived from about 9 kilograms of water.

Its design speed reaches 150 km/h, but during actual operation, it can travel at speeds between 110 and 140 km/h. The direct advantage is that the journey from Jind to Sonipat, which currently takes around 2 hours, could be shortened to under 1 hour.

The fare will be very low

The fare for this route has been a hot topic of discussion. The cost for the 90-kilometer trip between Jind and Sonipat could range from as low as ₹5 to ₹25. In a world where seeking better amenities or quicker travel can strain finances, such an affordable fare could be a major relief for regular commuters. Notably, even though this is a green technology train, the ticket prices will remain budget-friendly.
