As nearly every household has increased its use of electrical appliances, the electricity costs are increasing every month. These mounting bills make it harder for citizens to pay the bills. As a result, the central government is launching a program to benefit typical citizens. A program has been developed to offer electricity for free to one crore families in the country. The free energy produced will lead to lower bills and any surplus energy can be sold for profit.
The name of this program is the Prime Minister Surya Ghar Yojana. Through this program, any family will receive the first freely generated 300 units of electricity and will save up to ₹18,000 in a calendar year.
The government has proposed putting one solar panel on every roof. Families can draw up to 300 units of electricity for free. For any usage above 300 units electricity, the household would pay a subsidy to the government for excess use. The subsidy would be determined by the government based on its classification.
Prime Minister Surya Ghar Yojana: Free Electricity and Solar Subsidy
Prime Minister Narendra Modi started this scheme on February 13, 2024. This scheme will help people pay less electricity bills. It is a very good plan.
Under Prime Minister Surya Ghar Yojana, the government will give 60% of the cost of a solar plant up to 2 kilowatts as a subsidy to each family. If someone wants a 3-kilowatt plant, an extra 40% subsidy will be given for 1 kilowatt.
The cost of a 3KW plant is about ₹1.45 lakh. The government will pay ₹78,000 as subsidy. If someone cannot pay the remaining ₹67,000 at once, the government has made a low-interest loan for it.
This project helps people and the environment. It will reduce electricity bills and also use clean energy, which will reduce pollution. The government will give this benefit to one crore families.
