FASTag New Update: The new year has brought many new challenges for people. Several important changes are also going to take place in the coming month. From February 1st, systems related to FASTag, land registration, and verification will be implemented in a new form. These changes will directly affect vehicle owners and those buying and selling property. If you don’t get information about these rules in time and make the necessary preparations, you may face difficulties later. Therefore, it is important to understand what is changing from February 1st and what things need attention.
Big relief for FASTag users
The National Highways Authority of India has decided to eliminate the Know Your Vehicle (KYV) process related to FASTag. After February 1st, there will be no need for any further KYV verification after the FASTag is activated. Now, it will be the responsibility of the banks to complete all necessary checks related to the vehicle before issuing the tag.

What will change for old FASTag holders?
Vehicles that already have a FASTag will no longer have to go through any regular verification process. Unless there is misuse of the tag, a malfunction, or any complaint, the user will not need to complete any additional process. Re-verification will only be done in case of a complaint.
Verification will be done first for new FASTags
According to the new rules, banks will now verify the complete vehicle information before issuing a FASTag. The vehicle data will first be matched with the relevant database. If the information is not found there, verification will be done based on the registration certificate. The same process will apply to those buying FASTags online. Earlier, people faced problems like repeatedly uploading documents and stopping at toll plazas on the highway, which will now be significantly reduced.

Aadhaar verification mandatory for land registration
From February 1st, Aadhaar verification has been made mandatory during the registration of land and property. Now, not only the buyer and seller, but also the witnesses will have their Aadhaar verified on the spot. Biometric machines have been installed in all sub-registrar offices, which will be directly connected to the UIDAI server. Identity will be verified upon fingerprint scanning, and the registration process will only proceed if the identity is confirmed.
Face Authentication and OTP Option
For individuals whose fingerprints do not match, such as the elderly or manual laborers, a face authentication option will be available. If needed, identity can also be verified through an OTP sent to the mobile number linked to their Aadhaar card. These changes will prevent the buying and selling of land using fraudulent documents and reduce the likelihood of future legal disputes. Meanwhile, the changes in FASTag rules will provide significant relief to vehicle owners by eliminating the need for repeated verification.
