According to reports, this feature has already begun rolling out to beta users and may be rolled out to all users in the future. Previously, calling was limited to the mobile app and desktop app, but now users will be able to make calls directly from the browser.

This feature has been in demand for a long time

WhatsApp Web users have been waiting for this feature for a long time. This update is considered essential for users who work mostly in the office or on laptops. The new feature will eliminate the need to repeatedly switch to their mobile or a different app. This update is rolling out gradually and is initially only available to beta users.

Initial phase: Personal Chat Calling Only

The new calling feature is currently limited to one-to-one chats. This means that users can currently only make voice or video calls in individual chats. Reports indicate that group calling is also being worked on, and it may be rolled out to the web platform in the future.

Calls from the Browser Without Installing an App

The biggest advantage of this new feature is that users will no longer need to install a separate desktop app. Users will be able to initiate a call by simply opening WhatsApp Web. This will especially benefit users who rely on the web version.

Even with the introduction of the calling feature, WhatsApp’s security system will remain unchanged. Calls will remain protected by end-to-end encryption. WhatsApp uses Signal-based encryption technology to secure its communication system, ensuring data remains private.

Screen Sharing Will Increase Work Use

Screen sharing may also be included in web video calling. This will make online meetings, tech support, and teamwork easier. This is being considered a step towards making WhatsApp Web not just a chatting platform but a full-fledged communication service.
