Government Employees Retirement Benefits: The Modi government has given a great gift to the government employees working in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Assam Rifles. Now all the personnel working in these forces from constable to sub-inspector will be given an honorary rank of one post on the day of their retirement. This means that the employees who will be in their post on the day of their retirement will get an honorary post just one level above their retiring rank.

The purpose of this new scheme is to give these personnel who have served the country for a long time an honorable status at the end of their career, so that their service can be respected. However, this honorary promotion will be only an honorary post, in which there will be no financial benefit or any increase in pension. That is, it will only be a post status, due to which the personnel will get an honor at the time of retirement, but it will not change their salary or pension.

Home Ministry’s order and rules

The Home Ministry has issued a circular on 30 May 2025, which clearly states that employees from constable to sub-inspector rank in the Central Armed Police Forces and Assam Rifles will be given honorary promotion on the day of retirement. But there are some special terms and conditions for this.

The first and most important rule is that the employee should have worked with a good record during his entire service. Meaning no major punishment has been received and his service review (APAR) in the last five years should be at least ‘good’ or above. Also, there should be no question on the honesty of the employee and approval has also been given by departmental inquiry or vigilance.

Apart from this, this honorary promotion will be given only if there is a recommendation from the concerned commanding officer. The employee will get this honorary status on the day of retirement itself and this promotion will not affect the seniority between them.

Who will get which honorary post?

The retiring personnel will be given an honorary post one level above their current post. For example, if someone is a constable, he will get the honorary rank of Havildar, and if someone is a head constable, he will be given the honorary rank of Assistant Sub Inspector. Similarly, Sub Inspector will get the honorary rank of Inspector and Inspector will get the honorary rank of Warrant Officer.

The same rule will apply to Assam Rifles personnel. Where Riflemen will retire, they will get the honorary rank of Havildar, and Naib Subedar will be given the honorary rank of Subedar.

Respect and recognition will increase in the society

This honorary promotion scheme is a symbol of respect for retired personnel. Honoring the soldiers who have served the country for a long time in this way will boost their morale and their respect in the society will also increase. Even though it may not get any financial benefit, but it is a gift that touches the heart.

The government has taken this step so that the personnel who have served the country for many years of their life, get a special status even after retirement, which will make them feel proud.

Way forward

Now it is the responsibility of the concerned departments to implement this process on time and the deserving personnel get their honorary posts. Such steps will give better respect to the soldiers of the country and will also increase their confidence.

So this was a great gift from the Modi government for the personnel of the Central Armed Police Force and Assam Rifles, which is a golden opportunity to give them respect and recognition at the end of their service period.
