Government Scheme: The central government is running several schemes to benefit the people. These schemes are empowering people financially. Recently, the government has provided relief to the people. Now, millions of people working for delivery apps, domestic helpers, and daily wage earners can obtain loans even without being connected to the banking system. The central government is going to launch a new microcredit scheme, under which a loan of up to ₹10,000 will be available without any guarantee.

Know When the Scheme Will Be Implemented

According to media reports, the government may implement this scheme from April 2026. The report has been prepared by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The direct objective of this scheme is to provide financial assistance to delivery workers working on platforms like Swiggy, Zomato, Zepto, Blinkit, domestic helpers, and other unorganized urban workers. This loan will help them buy bikes, mobile phones, or other essential equipment related to their work.

Will Work Like the PM-SVANidhi Scheme

The new scheme will work like the PM-SVANidhi scheme. In the first phase of PM-SVANidhi, a loan of ₹10,000 is given, which can be increased to ₹20,000 and then to ₹50,000 upon timely repayment. It also offers benefits such as a 7% interest subsidy and incentives for digital payments. A similar model may be adopted in the government’s new gig worker scheme.

Who Will Be Eligible?

This loan will benefit gig workers and unorganized workers registered in government records. Delivery workers, domestic helpers, and other unorganized workers registered on the e-Shram portal are eligible to apply for this scheme. Those who have a UAN, Aadhaar, or other valid documents and whose records are verified will be given priority.

Efforts to connect them to the banking system

According to the government, many gig workers and unorganized laborers are unable to obtain bank loans because they lack formal proof of income or a credit history. This new scheme will address this problem and help them become self-reliant.

A major step by the government for these individuals

As of November 2025, more than 310 million unorganized workers and millions of gig workers have registered on the e-Shram portal. This scheme will not only provide them with financial assistance but also connect them to the formal financial system.
