Who will get free cylinders in Delhi?
This project has been made for the people of the economically weaker sections of Delhi. Families who have ration cards and who fall under the poor category under the Public Distribution System will benefit from this. Currently, there are about 17.18 lakh ration card holders in Delhi. Initially, these people will be included in this scheme. The government has identified the eligible beneficiaries on the basis of the ration card database.

The verification process in this regard has also been completed. Families whose names are properly registered in the ration card system will not have to face any additional hassle. The government is focusing on those families where gas cylinders are the biggest burden of daily expenses. This scheme will provide direct relief to such families.
How to get free cylinders?
Instead of delivering gas cylinders to the homes of the beneficiaries, the Delhi government is adopting the method of direct payment. According to officials, during Holi and Diwali, an amount equivalent to the cost of each cylinder, i.e. about Rs 850, will be sent to the Aadhaar-linked bank accounts of the beneficiaries. This money will be transferred through DBT (Direct Bank Transfer).
Families will then be able to buy cylinders from their nearest gas agency. The government says this will reduce the scope for middlemen. A similar system is already in place in Uttar Pradesh and the same model is being adopted in Delhi. The facility is expected to be available for the first time around Holi. This time, along with the festival of colours, kitchen worries will also be reduced.
