Awareness is a big tool to move forward in every department. India, known for its vast farm lands, produces many types of colors throughout the year. But, the income of a farmer is always a reason to pay focus. This article is to help farmers to gain more profit than usual.
Why farming Khesari can prove useful
Khesari is used as a pulse, a green vegetable, and as animal fodder. Previously, it contained a harmful substance called neurotoxin, which limited its use. However, with the advent of new, safer varieties, this problem has been resolved. This crop is proving profitable for farmers. Among the new varieties available to farmers, ‘Ratan’ matures in 105 to 115 days, ‘Prateek’ matures in 110-115 days, ‘Mahativada’ matures in 95-105 days, ‘Nirmal’ matures in 105-110 days, and ‘Pusa’ matures in 110-115 days.
These varieties provide high yields and are safe to harvest. The most significant advantage of Khesari is that it yields well even in harsh weather and adverse conditions. Previously, due to rain-fed agriculture, only paddy was grown in Kharif season, leaving fields fallow during Rabi season. Now, by sowing Khesari seeds before the paddy harvest , farmers can grow more than one crop per year and earn additional income. Land with heavy soil is considered best for cultivating Khesari using the Utehra method . The best time for sowing is 15-20 days before the paddy harvest, i.e., between October 15th and November 15th. Approximately 30-32 kilograms of seed is required per acre.
Who to farm this corp
Excess water in the field should be drained, otherwise the seeds may rot. This khesari crop can be grown in vacant fields after paddy harvesting, increasing farmers’ income and strengthening their economic strength. By using the ‘Utehra method’ and new varieties, farmers can earn higher profits with lower investment and make their farming more productive. Overall, cultivating khesari using the ‘Utehra method’ is proving to be a safe, profitable, and cost-effective option for farmers, turning vacant fields into income-generating opportunities.
