EPFO Rules May: Big news for crores of EPFO members. A groundbreaking transformation is on the horizon for millions of EPFO subscribers. You will no longer have to endure long waits to access your PF funds, as starting next month, on May 1, 2026, you will be able to withdraw your money using UPI.

Now you can withdraw funds via UPI; the new rules will take effect from May 1

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) is set to enhance its system with advanced technology. You won’t have to wait long for your PF claims to be settled. Beginning May 1, 2026, subscribers will have the ability to transfer money directly to their bank accounts through UPI.

What prompted this decision?

At present, the PF withdrawal process can take anywhere from 7 to 15 days. The incorporation of the UPI payment system will expedite this process even more. The government’s goal is to ensure that employees can access their funds within a few hours during emergencies.

What does the new rule entail?

Initially, there may be a daily withdrawal limit set for UPI transactions. Reports indicate that for small advances, such as those needed for medical emergencies or education, you will be able to withdraw amounts ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 100,000 instantly via UPI. To utilize this feature, your UAN (Universal Account Number) must be linked to both your Aadhaar and bank account. Additionally, the same mobile number must be registered with both your bank and EPFO for the UPI ID.

Your funds will be secure

UPI transactions will implement multi-level authentication, including biometric verification and OTP-based security measures, to safeguard against fraudulent withdrawals from your PF account. This regulation will come into effect on May 1, 2026. The EPFO will soon introduce this new option in its official app (Umang) and on its portal. Subscribers are encouraged to update their KYC details now to prevent any complications later.
