EPFO extends deadline for UAN activation-Aadhaar linking: If you are a job holder and PF is deducted from your salary, then this news is very important for you. EPFO i.e. Employee Provident Fund Organization has extended the deadline for activating Universal Account Number (UAN) and linking bank account with Aadhaar. Earlier its last date was 31 May 2025, but now it has been extended to 30 June 2025.
This will benefit those employees who have not been able to complete this important process till now. This extension has been done especially so that no employee misses out on taking advantage of important schemes like life insurance.
What is the real meaning of ELI or EDLI scheme?
Talking about EPFO’s insurance scheme, it is also known as ELI i.e. Employee Life Insurance Scheme, whose formal name is EDLI i.e. Employee Deposit Linked Insurance Scheme. This scheme is for such employees who die due to any reason during the job.
If the employee’s UAN is active and linked to Aadhaar, then a lump sum insurance amount is given to the nominee of that employee. This insurance amount can be up to a maximum of ₹ 7 lakh. But the condition to get this benefit is that the employee’s Universal Account Number should be fully active and linked to Aadhaar.
Why is it necessary to activate UAN?
UAN must be active to get any kind of benefits related to EPF like PF withdrawal, pension claim or insurance amount. When your UAN remains active and linked to Aadhaar, it is also easy for EPFO to keep your records updated. Also, you can login to the EPFO portal yourself and check your PF balance, claim status, and KYC information anytime.
Who needs to get UAN activation done?
Every person who is employed in any private or government company and whose salary is deducted from PF should get UAN activation done. If your employer has added you to the scheme, but your UAN is not active or is not linked to Aadhaar, then you should activate it immediately. Otherwise, whenever you have to take any claim in future, you may face problems.
How to activate UAN
EPFO has made this process completely online and very easy. For this, you do not need to visit any office. You just have to go to the official site of EPFO and click on the option of “Activate UAN” there.
