The Chief Minister said that this decision has been taken after the approval of Maharashtra State Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC). MERC has accepted the petition of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (Mahavitaran), in which a demand was made to reduce electricity rates. Earlier, most of the times the companies used to demand to increase the electricity rates, but for the first time Mahavitaran filed a petition to reduce the rates and it was also accepted.

Electricity rates will be reduced by 26% in 5 years

The Chief Minister wrote on Twitter that for the first time in the history of the state, electricity rates will be reduced by 10% in the first year and in 5 years the rates will be reduced by 26%. The common people will get the most benefit from this.

Which customers will benefit?

According to Chief Minister Fadnavis, this reduction in electricity tariff will be applicable to all three categories of domestic, industrial and commercial customers. The special thing is that about 70% of the customers in Maharashtra use less than 100 units of electricity every month. Such consumers will get direct and big benefit from this decision.

Middle and lower class will benefit

This decision will especially provide relief to middle class and lower class families, who are directly affected by the rising electricity bills. Now they will pay less electricity bill every month, which will increase savings. The Chief Minister’s Office said that work on the Mukhyamantri Saur Krishi Vahini Yojana 2.0 has started at a fast pace. This scheme was started in 2017, in which decentralized solar power projects ranging from 2 MW to 10 MW are installed within a radius of 5 km of agriculture-centric sub-centers. This provides electricity to farmers during the day and also promotes solar energy production in the state.
