e-SHRAM Card: In 2021, the Ministry of Labor and Employment launched the e-Shram portal, a massive national database for unorganized sector workers. This portal is designed to directly benefit migrant workers, domestic workers, and all workers in this sector. By creating an e-Shram card, or labour card, these workers receive benefits from various government schemes and social security.

The primary objective of this portal is to create a robust database of unorganized workers employed in states and union territories across the country. Any domestic worker or unorganized worker can register on it. The e-Shram portal provides registration for approximately 30 broad occupational sectors and 400 businesses, ensuring its comprehensive reach.

Benefits of the e-Shram Card

Unorganized sector workers holding e-Shram cards directly receive numerous financial and social benefits, providing economic stability in their lives. Under this scheme, unorganized sector workers receive a monthly pension of ₹3,000 after the age of 60, providing a significant guarantee of income in old age.

In case of accidental death, the worker is provided with a death insurance cover of ₹2 lakh, and in case of partial disability, financial assistance of ₹1 lakh is provided. If a beneficiary (an unorganized sector worker holding an e-SHRAM card) dies due to an accident, all benefits are transferred to their spouse, ensuring family security.

The e-SHRAM card is a welfare scheme launched by the Government of India. It is for all unorganized sector workers, such as construction workers, domestic workers, rickshaw pullers, street vendors, etc. It is important to note that workers holding e-SHRAM cards receive direct benefits from insurance, pensions, and other government schemes.
