The government has recently brought new rules regarding driving licenses. Due to which, from now on, you will not have to run to the RTO office to get a license.

What exactly has the government announced

1 Driving test at private institutions: From June 1, 2024, drivers will be able to take the driving test at private driving training centers instead of government RTOs. These institutions will be authorized to conduct tests and issue certificates for license eligibility.

2 Special focus on environment: The new rules aim to reduce pollution by phasing out around 900,000 old government vehicles and implementing stricter vehicle emission norms.

3 Stricter penalties for non-compliance: Speeding will attract a fine of ₹ 1,000 to ₹ 2,000. However, if a minor is caught driving, he will have to pay a hefty fine of ₹ 25,000. Not only that, the vehicle owner’s registration card will be cancelled. The minor will be ineligible for a license till the age of 25.

4 Easier application process: From now on, the ministry will simplify the documentation required for a new license. Specific documents required depending on the type of vehicle (two-wheeler or four-wheeler) have been prescribed. This will reduce the need for physical check-ups at the RTO.
