Digital Life Certificate: Submitting a life certificate every year is a mandatory process for millions of government pensioners across the country. Previously, this process required frequent visits to banks, post offices, or government offices. However, technology has now eliminated this hassle. Through a digital service called “Jeevan Pramaan,” pensioners can submit their life certificates online from the comfort of their homes. The entire process is completed in a few minutes and automatically transmitted to the pension disbursing authority.

The government has clarified that all pensioners receiving pensions from the central and state governments are required to submit their life certificates by November 30th of every year. Failure to do so may result in a temporary suspension of pension payments.

Who will not be eligible?

The Digital Life Certificate facility is not available to pensioners who have remarried or joined a new job. Such individuals must submit the certificate in person to their pension disbursing authority through the traditional method. This is clearly stated in the guidelines of the Jeevan Pramaan portal.

How a Life Certificate Works

Jeevan Pramaan is an Aadhaar- and biometric-based digital certificate that certifies that the pensioner is alive. It is generated using the pensioner’s Aadhaar number and fingerprint or iris scan. This digital process eliminates the need for pensioners to visit banks or post offices. The certificate is directly delivered to the pension disbursing institution.

Who Can Benefit

This facility is only available to pensioners whose pension sanctioning authority is registered on the Jeevan Pramaan platform. Those who have remarried or rejoined employment cannot use this facility. The ‘Circulars’ section of the Jeevan Pramaan website provides information about which institutions are registered on the platform.

What is Required for a Life Certificate

To generate a digital life certificate, a pensioner needs to enter their Aadhaar number, name, mobile number, pension-related information such as PPO number, bank details, and the name of the pension sanctioning authority. Biometric verification, i.e., an iris or fingerprint scan, is also required.

No need to visit a bank or post office

After submitting the life certificate, there’s no need to transport it anywhere. The certificate is automatically sent to pension disbursing agencies like banks and post offices. This way, pensioners don’t have to stand in line or fill out forms.

Home Service for EPFO ​​Pensioners

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has launched a special service in collaboration with India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) that allows EPFO ​​pensioners to obtain their digital life certificate from the comfort of their homes. This service is completely free. A bank representative comes to the home to perform the biometric verification, eliminating the need for the pensioner to travel anywhere.
