Why is this trading so special?
The one-hour Muhurat trading on Diwali is considered a highly auspicious occasion for starting new investments and accumulating wealth for generations. Steeped in tradition and determined by planetary positions, trading involves a blend of not only spiritual beliefs but also financial strategies.
During this one-hour session, investors follow market traditions by making small investments. It is believed that Muhurat trading on this day brings prosperity and wealth to investors throughout the year. This trading on Diwali occurs across all three markets: equity, equity futures and options, currency, and commodity markets.
When did it first begin?
The stock market has a decades-old tradition of conducting this special Muhurat trading for one hour on Diwali. Muhurat trading began in 1957 at the BSE and in 1992 at the NSE. Experts agree that Muhurat trading is purely a matter of tradition, and most investors buy shares on this day. However, these investments are usually small and symbolic.
Long-term purchases are made during the Muhurat trading session. Investors and brokers prefer to purchase value-based stocks that are good for the long term. Investors make these purchases because they intend to pass on the shares to the next generation. Diwali is considered auspicious for starting anything new, not just stock market trading. Therefore, many investors also make their first investments in the stock market during this special Muhurat trading session.
