These days, fog has disrupted normal life in North India. Zero visibility has not only resulted in the cancellation of hundreds of flights but has also completely disrupted the Indian Railways’ schedule. The situation is such that even trains that were once considered punctual, such as the Rajdhani and Shatabdi Expresses, are now arriving 5 to 10 hours late.
When a blanket of white fog envelops all around, it becomes impossible to discern which station the train has just passed by, looking out the window. It’s natural for passengers and their families to feel anxious. But there’s no need to panic, as modern technology allows you to track your train from the comfort of your home.
Easy Way to Check Live Train Status

Indian Railways has provided several digital tools for passenger convenience, allowing you to find out where your train is currently standing in seconds.
1. Tracking via the Official Website
Railways’ National Train Inquiry System (NTES) is the most reliable way to track your train. Using it is very simple:
First, visit the official portal enquiry.indianrail.gov.in.
Select the ‘Train Running Status’ option.
Enter your 5-digit train number.
Select your journey date.
Clicking the search button will display the train’s current location, departure time from the previous station, and expected arrival time at the next station.
2. Helpline Number 139
If you don’t have internet access or don’t use a smartphone, you can get information with just one call. Dial 139 from your phone, select the language, and receive train status information. This service is available 24/7 and provides highly accurate data.
Important Information from Train Tracking

When you check the live status, you receive not only the location but also several other important updates. You can find out which station the train is currently at or which two stations it is standing between. You get an accurate estimate of how many minutes or hours your train is running behind schedule. Fog can cause changes in train times, so this tool informs you when the train is expected to arrive at your destination. Often, information about the possible platform numbers of upcoming stations is also available in advance.
Take special care when traveling in fog
Traveling during fog can be challenging. Due to poor visibility on railway tracks, drivers (Loco Pilots) drive trains at very slow speeds for safety reasons.
Be sure to check the live status at least twice before leaving the station to avoid unnecessary waiting.
Trains like Rajdhani, Duronto, and Tejas can also be delayed in fog, so be sure to include a buffer time in your future planning.
While walking on the platform in fog, stay away from the yellow line and proceed only when the train is announced.
