DA Hike: Good news for state government employees. Central government employees are currently waiting for their DA (Dearness Allowance) payments for the first half of 2026. The anticipation for DA is becoming increasingly prolonged. Normally, the government announces the DA around Holi, but this year, there has been no progress even as we enter the second week of April. During this waiting period, some state governments are moving forward with their own DA decisions for different employee categories. The Telangana government has made one such decision.
What is the decision?
The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation has raised the dearness allowance (DA) for its employees. State Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar revealed a 2.1 percent increase in the dearness allowance, which will rise from 50.7 percent to 52.8 percent. This updated dearness allowance will take effect from January 1, 2026. The arrears for the previous three months will be settled through supplementary bills and will be distributed in three installments over the upcoming months. This increase is expected to add an extra financial burden of Rs 2.82 crore per month on the transport corporation.
This marks the second increase in dearness allowance for Transport Corporation employees within less than a year. The last increase was also a 2.1 percent rise that took place in July 2025. With this adjustment, the total dearness allowance now stands at 52.8 percent. There are no outstanding dues following the implementation of the RPS-2017 in May 2024.
What did the minister say?
The state government minister mentioned that the government has disbursed the only pending installment of dearness allowance and reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing the Transport Corporation, focusing on employee welfare and passenger convenience. He highlighted that measures are being taken to improve hospital facilities, offer compassionate appointments, reinstate long-retired employees through a committee, and alleviate workload through new hiring.
Telangana State Road Transport Corporation Managing Director Y. Nagireddy expressed his delight at the long-awaited dearness allowance increase and said that employees had been eagerly awaiting the announcement. He reiterated that employee welfare remains the organization’s top priority. Senior officials of the corporation welcomed the decision and congratulated the minister for extending this benefit to transport corporation employees across the state.
