PF is essential for every individual, as it serves as a financial resource post-retirement. The management of PF accounts is overseen by the Employee Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), which offers returns of up to 8.25 percent.
What is PF and how it works
Currently, 12% of the salary of every employed individual is allocated to the PF. In certain circumstances, it is possible to withdraw a portion of the funds from your PF account, although specific regulations must be adhered to for this process.
Whether you intend to withdraw funds or perform other significant transactions, it is crucial to verify your PF balance. To do so, you will require your Universal Account Number (UAN). However, even if you have forgotten your UAN, you can still access your PF balance through alternative methods.
You need to send a text from your registered mobile number
One way to check your PF balance is via SMS. You need to send a text from your registered mobile number to 7738299899. To receive the balance in English, format your message as EPFO UAN ENG. If you prefer to receive the information in another language, simply modify the last three letters accordingly. For instance, to obtain your balance in Hindi, send EPFO UAN HIN, and for Marathi, send EPFO UAN MAR.
Check your PF balance without a UAN by making a missed call
Additionally, you can check your PF balance without a UAN by making a missed call. To do this, call the EPFO number 996604442 from your registered mobile. The call will be disconnected shortly after, and you will receive an SMS containing your PF account details.
No Cost
Both methods are free of charge. It is important to note that you can only check your balance if your Aadhaar is linked to your PAN card, and your UAN must be activated.
