Ticket Booking IRCTC: Big relief for Indian Rail passengers. Passengers often face difficulties booking online Tatkal tickets, as well as regular tickets during peak hours. Due to the slow reservation system, passengers are often unable to book confirmed tickets. This problem is expected to be resolved within the next two to three months.
To this end, work is underway to upgrade the passenger reservation system. It is expected to be completed by June. After that, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website and mobile app will allow booking of 150,000 tickets per minute, up from 32,000 previously.
To facilitate online ticket booking, Indian Railways is upgrading its Passenger Reservation System (PRS). This will increase ticket booking capacity fivefold. It will also increase ticket and train-related enquiry capacity. Currently, the enquiry capacity is 400,000 per minute, but this will increase to over 400,000. This was announced in last year’s budget. Railway officials say the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) is working on the upgrade of the system, which is in its final stages.
The increased capacity of the new PRS will solve the problem of ticket booking during busy hours. Problems like slow speed, server down and payment process failure will not arise. This will increase the chances of getting a confirmed ticket. According to officials, the new system will be multilingual and will include new features like fare calendar and seat selection. It will also be secure. According to information, about 89 percent of the total reserved tickets are booked online. Only 11 percent of the tickets are purchased from the reservation counter.
