Now you do not need to go to the railway counter to cancel the e-ticket. You can cancel your booking in just a few minutes by visiting the IRCTC website or mobile app. You can cancel the ticket before or after the chart is prepared, but after the chart is prepared, you do not get a direct refund; rather, it is necessary to file a TDR (Ticket Deposit Receipt). You cannot cancel the ticket directly after the chart is prepared. For this, you have to file a TDR (Ticket Deposit Receipt) about 4 hours before the train leaves. If the train is late, there will be no refund. There is no refund for cancelling a confirmed Tatkal ticket. But if your Tatkal ticket is waitlisted or RAC and you cancel it 4 hours before the train departs, then ₹20 + GST per passenger will be deducted, and the rest of the money will be refunded.

What if the train is cancelled

If the train is cancelled due to any reason, like flood, accident, or any technical reason, then you will get the full fare refunded. For an e-ticket, you have to apply for online cancellation within 3 days from the scheduled time of the train.
