According to sources, the new system will finalise passenger charts eight hours before the train’s departure. Apart from preparing initial charts, the railways will launch a modern Passenger Reservation System (PRS) by December 2025.
The project is being executed by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS). If implemented, the new PRS will be capable of booking over 1.5 lakh tickets per minute, which is about five times the current capacity of 32,000 tickets per minute. The ticket enquiry system will also see an upgrade, with the enquiry capacity increasing from 4 lakh to 40 lakh per minute, improving access to real-time booking information for millions of passengers.
Train tickets will be expensive from July 1
Let us tell you that recently there has been news that Indian Railways will increase the second class travel fare by half a paisa per kilometer beyond 500 km from July. This is the first fare hike since 2020. For mail express trains, this increase will be 1 paisa per kilometer, while in AC class there will be an increase of 2 paisa per kilometer. However, suburban fares and monthly season tickets will remain unchanged.
