PFRDA has given more time to choose the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS). This is for Central Government workers who joined between April 1, 2025 and August 31, 2025. The Finance Ministry announced the UPS on January 24, 2025. PFRDA works under the Finance Ministry.
The Central Government has decided to give more time to join the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS). This is for Central Government workers who joined on or after April 1, 2025, and up to August 31, 2025, and who are in the National Pension System (NPS). They can choose UPS until September 30, 2025. This is the same last date as given earlier for other groups under UPS.

Option to Switch to NPS Even After UPS
Workers who join UPS can later switch back to NPS. This gives them more choice for planning life after retirement. UPS started across India on April 1, 2025. It is a pension scheme of the Government of India. It gives Central Government workers another option under NPS. UPS is made to give safe, fixed, and fair pension with protection against price rise. It helps workers have clear and steady money after retirement.
