More than 7 crore children in the country have not yet completed the mandatory biometric update in Aadhaar after turning five years old. For these children, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), which issues Aadhaar, is now going to start the process of updating their biometrics through schools across the country.

According to PTI news, this work will begin in a phased manner within the next 45 to 60 days. This information was shared by UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar last Sunday.

Schools will now help with Aadhaar update

UIDAI is working on a simple way to update children’s Aadhaar at school. With the permission of parents, children’s biometrics will be updated at their school itself. UIDAI is testing this method, and it may start in the next two months. For kids aged 5 to 7, this update is free. After 7 years, you need to pay ₹100. If the update is not done on time, the Aadhaar may stop working.

Important for school admission and government help

Once the Aadhaar is updated, it will be used for school admission, scholarship, exam forms, and government schemes. UIDAI also wants to update Aadhaar again at the age of 15 in schools and colleges.

UIDAI will send biometric machines to every district. These machines will go to different schools one by one so that all children can update their Aadhaar easily. This plan will help children get all the benefits on time and make the Aadhaar process simple and fast.
