Aadhaar Card Redesign: Despite the launch of the new Aadhaar Card app by UIDAI, there are still numerous instances where a photocopy of your Aadhaar card is necessary. This situation often leads to concerns about the potential misuse of your Aadhaar card. To tackle this problem, the government has made a significant decision, and as per report, the design of the Aadhaar card will soon undergo changes.

This redesign will eliminate personal details such as your name, address, and Aadhaar number from the card. As a result, user privacy will be enhanced, and even if you present a photocopy of your Aadhaar card, there will be no anxiety about your information being compromised or misused.

What will the new Aadhaar card look like?

According to reports, the new Aadhaar card design will be quite distinct. In the past, the card displayed your name, address, and 12-digit Aadhaar number. The updated card will only show your photo and a secure QR code. The benefit of this QR code is that your personal details, including your name, address, date of birth, and Aadhaar number, will now be concealed in encrypted form within the QR code rather than printed on the card. It can only be accessed using a government-authorized scanner or the official UIDAI app. This means that even with a physical copy of Aadhaar, the risk of personal information being exposed will be minimized.

Why is the Aadhaar card undergoing changes?

The main motivation behind this alteration is to combat fraud and safeguard individuals’ personal information. Reports indicate that various organizations frequently keep your Aadhaar card without your consent, which poses a significant risk to privacy and security. However, with the Aadhaar card containing solely your photo and a QR code, the likelihood of card misuse will be significantly lowered.

It’s important to mention that UIDAI has already launched a new version of its app to encourage the digital utilization of Aadhaar. This advancement greatly simplifies the process of sharing Aadhaar digitally and verifying information through scanning. Now, the government is looking to achieve a similar change by making the card itself more accessible. ( REF. )

What do you have to do?

According to reports, the government has developed a plan called Aadhaar Vision 2032. A dedicated high-level committee has been formed to address future security needs and data privacy. A system will be created to reduce paperwork and ensure faster and easier verification in a digital-first system.

For now, until more information becomes available, you should use the Aadhaar app instead of using a physical copy of your Aadhaar card. Once the government makes the new Aadhaar design official, you will be able to order a physical copy of the new Aadhaar through the UIDAI website. This will be similar to how you currently order a PVC Aadhaar card.
