The discussion of the 8th Pay Commission is in full swing. Every employee, whether junior or senior, just wants to know how big is the increase in his salary. We had earlier told the calculation of the salary of level-1 employees, but now it is the turn of a very important level i.e. level-6 (grade pay-4200).
Lakhs of employees working at this level are eager to know how much their current basic pay of ₹35,400 will increase. What will be the effect of the fitment factor? And after adding all the allowances and deductions, how much will be the net salary i.e. the amount in hand at the end of the month? Come, today we answer these questions of yours and explain the entire calculation in simple language.
Fitment Factor
In any pay commission, the ‘fitment factor’ is the magic key that unlocks your salary. In the 7th Pay Commission, it was 2.57 times. Many estimates are being made for the 8th Pay Commission, but sources and experts point to a fitment factor of 1.92. We will do the entire calculation on this basis so that you can get an accurate estimate.

Complete calculation of level-6 salary
Let us now see the complete math of the new salary of a level-6 employee.
Mathematics of new basic salary
First of all, understand how your basic salary will change:
Current Basic Salary (Level-6): ₹35,400
Estimated Fitment Factor: 1.92
Calculation of new basic salary: ₹35,400 x 1.92 = ₹67,968
So first of all, know that your basic salary will increase directly from ₹35,400 to around ₹68,000. This is a big jump.
Huge increase in allowances
Now your allowances will be added to this new basic salary, which will increase your salary even more.
Dearness Allowance (DA): When the new pay commission is implemented, the DA is made zero (0), because the old inflation gets adjusted in the basic salary itself.
House Rent Allowance (HRA): If you live in an ‘X’ class city (like Delhi, Mumbai), you can get 30% HRA of the new basic salary.
HRA: ₹20,390
Travel Allowance (TA): For big cities, this will be ₹3,600 (this is separate from DA, which is currently zero).
Gross Salary vs Net Salary
Now let’s add all these and see what is the total income of the month i.e. gross salary.
Calculating Gross Salary
New Basic Salary:- ₹67,968
Dearness Allowance (DA):- ₹0
House Rent Allowance (HRA):- ₹20,390
Travel Allowance (TA):- ₹3,600
Total Gross Salary:- ₹91,958 per month
This is the amount that will appear on your salary slip. But to know how much money you will get in hand (in-hand salary), we need to understand the deductions.
Calculating Net Salary
There are some deductions from your gross salary:
NPS Deduction: This is 10% of your Basic Salary + DA.
10% of ₹67,968 = ₹6,797
CGHS Deduction (Estimated)
So how much salary will you get in hand
Gross Salary: ₹91,958
Total Deductions (NPS + CGHS):- ₹6,797 + ₹450 = ₹7,247
Estimated Net Salary (In-hand):- ₹91,958 – ₹7,247 = ₹84,711 per month
