8th Pay Commission: Today is expected to be a very significant day for central government employees and pensioners. A meeting of the 8th Pay Commission is scheduled for Monday, during which some major decisions may be taken. This meeting is likely to involve deliberations regarding the salaries of central employees, the fitment factor, and Dearness Allowance (DA) hikes.
It is widely believed that the Commission may take some momentous decisions during this meeting. The 8th Pay Commission is mandated to submit its recommendations regarding employees’ salaries within 18 months. The government, in turn, will make decisions regarding salary hikes based on these very recommendations. However, no concrete official information has emerged yet regarding the specific decisions that will be taken during the meeting.

Meeting to be Held Today
Today, April 13, 2026, a crucial meeting of the Drafting Committee of the National Council of Joint Consultative Machinery (NC-JCM) is set to take place, where issues related to salary hikes will be discussed. This meeting will be held at 11:00 AM at the JP Chaubey Memorial Library (AIRF Office) in New Delhi.
During this meeting, a “Common Memorandum”—prepared jointly by various organisations representing employees and pensioners—will be finalised. This memorandum will encompass proposals related to pay scales, annual increments, allowances, and other benefits.

Know When the 8th Pay Commission is Expected to Come into Effect.
The inaugural meeting of the 8th Pay Commission was held on March 12, 2026, during which all pertinent issues were discussed. In today’s meeting—April 13—these issues are expected to be finalised before being formally presented to the Pay Commission. Currently, the government has not yet announced the effective date for the salary hikes under the 8th Pay Commission. However, employee organisations are demanding that the hike be deemed effective from January 1, 2026, and that arrears be disbursed on that basis.
Today’s Meeting Deemed Crucial
For the record, the Central Government has also signalled that the 8th Pay Commission was constituted well in advance to ensure that all recommendations could be meticulously prepared, thereby avoiding any undue haste during the implementation process. All in all, today’s meeting on April 13 is considered extremely significant, as it could clarify the extent of the potential salary hike for employees.
