Bullet Train: Big update revealed regarding The anticipation for the nation’s inaugural bullet train seems to be gradually coming to a close. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has shared an important update, revealing that the first segment of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor is set to be operational by 2027. This project is one of the most ambitious in the history of Indian railways, signaling the start of a high-speed rail network in the country. The government intends to roll out the project in phases, allowing passengers to enjoy its benefits as soon as possible.
Where will the bullet train operate?
According to the Railway Minister, the bullet train will initially operate between Surat and Bilimora. This will be succeeded by routes from Vapi to Surat, Vapi to Ahmedabad, Ahmedabad to Thane, and ultimately the complete Ahmedabad-Mumbai route. This means that different sections will be opened gradually over the next few years, eventually providing full access to the Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor for passengers. The Railway Ministry also announced that India’s first bullet train has now entered a vital new phase.
Hyderabad to become the country’s high-speed rail hub
During an event in Hyderabad, Ashwini Vaishnav mentioned that the city is set to become the high-speed rail hub of the country in the future. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given the green light for three new bullet train corridors that will connect Hyderabad. These corridors include Pune-Hyderabad, Hyderabad-Chennai, and Hyderabad-Bengaluru. Once completed, these projects will greatly enhance the high-speed rail network in South India.
Travel time will be reduced
The Railway Minister emphasized that the introduction of these high-speed trains will lead to a significant reduction in travel times. For instance, the trip from Hyderabad to Pune will take about 2 hours, Hyderabad to Mumbai will take around 2 hours and 50 minutes, Hyderabad to Amravati will take approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes, Hyderabad to Chennai will take about 3 hours, and Hyderabad to Bengaluru will take roughly 2 hours and 35 minutes.
This will also increase trade, tourism, and employment opportunities.
5,400 crore railway budget for Telangana
The Railway Minister also stated that Prime Minister Modi has allocated a railway budget of Rs 5,400 crore for Telangana, which is rapidly developing the state’s railway infrastructure. Furthermore, work on modernizing railway stations across the country is progressing rapidly. So far, the redevelopment of 261 railway stations has been completed, while work is also progressing rapidly at major stations like Secunderabad, Begumpet, and Hi-Tech City.
India’s first bullet train project, based on Japan’s Shinkansen technology, is considered a historic transformation of the country’s transportation infrastructure. If completed on schedule, Indian passengers will be able to travel on trains exceeding 300 km/h for the first time starting in 2027. This will not only make travel faster and more comfortable, but will also join the list of countries with global high-speed rail networks.
