Bharat Taxi: A new initiative has been launched in UP for drivers operating taxis, auto-rickshaws, and two-wheelers. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated ‘Bharat Taxi’ in the state on Wednesday. Under this scheme, drivers of two-wheelers, taxis, and three-wheelers can register and join the platform without paying any commission. Additionally, they will receive financial security coverage of up to ₹5 lakh. The government states that this initiative will provide drivers with a better working environment alongside financial security.
Currently, operations have commenced in Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, and Prayagraj. Agreements have been signed with various entities, including the Lucknow Airport, Lucknow Metro, and Lucknow Police, to facilitate the process. This initiative is expected to provide convenient transportation options for people to reach various destinations.
Zero Commission for Registration
CM Yogi remarked that no one had previously envisioned such a system for taxi, two-wheeler, and three-wheeler drivers. Upon registration, drivers will be able to operate on a ‘zero-commission’ model. The accompanying social security benefits will instil greater confidence in them regarding their future. The CM noted that when a driver is assured of social security, it promotes a sense of security and peace of mind, enabling them to perform their duties with greater responsibility and dedication.
Benefits Explained Using the Mahakumbh Example
Citing the example of the Prayagraj Mahakumbh 2025, the CM highlighted how a large number of youths assisted pilgrims in reaching the Sangam on two-wheelers. These services played a crucial role in transporting people between the Sangam, the railway station, and the airport, providing convenient transport while preventing excessive strain on the traffic system.
Enhanced Transport Facilities in Villages
Meanwhile, CM Yogi has directed Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh to expand rural bus services alongside this taxi initiative. He believes that implementing this model in rural areas could generate significant employment opportunities for the youth. Through the ‘Bharat Tax’ initiative, the government is focusing on providing social security to drivers on the one hand and ensuring convenient transportation in cities on the other. In the future, we could also expand this model to other sectors.
