According to media reports, commercial LPG cylinders are being sold at prices roughly ₹200 to ₹600 lower than the official rate at certain gas agencies in UP’s rural areas. The government-fixed rate for a 19 kg commercial cylinder in Kushinagar is approximately ₹2,946, yet some customers are acquiring them for between ₹2,400 and ₹2,700.
Why are gas cylinders being sold at lower rates?
According to available information, oil marketing companies have not officially reduced the prices. Commercial cylinders are being sold at a discount because demand for them is lower in rural areas and small towns. Commercial cylinders (the 19 kg variety) are used by restaurants, hotels, sweet shops, food stalls, and catering businesses; while there is demand from these sectors in smaller markets, some agencies have decided to clear excess stock by selling at discounted rates.

Households typically use 14.2 kg LPG cylinders. There has been no change in their prices at present; the rates remain completely stable. Today, the price is ₹944 in Delhi, ₹968.50 in Kolkata, ₹941.50 in Mumbai, and ₹947.50 in Chennai. Similarly, there has been no change in the price of commercial cylinders (19 kg); the price in Delhi stands at ₹2,747.50.
