Bank Strike: There is a big update here regarding bank strike. The central government has made an appeal to bank staff concerning a nationwide bank strike scheduled from September 28 to September 30, 2026. The Finance Ministry has urged employee unions to revoke their strike plan. Employees are encouraged by the government to reconsider their intention to strike and consider postponing it. The government highlighted that discussions are in progress regarding various demands of bank staff, and initiating a strike at this point could have repercussions on bank customers, business, and government transactions.

The government has clarified its position on 5-Day Banking, explaining that public sector banks are closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month. Consequently, banks are operational on the remaining Saturdays, ensuring customers have access to essential banking services. Despite this, bank employee unions have declared a three-day strike from September 28th to 30th. The government has urged employees to rethink their decision to strike and attempt to delay it to prevent disruptions to banking services.

Meanwhile the State Bank of India is expected to remain closed for five days in a row. The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has scheduled a three-day strike from September 28 to September 30, 2026. Additionally, the bank will be closed on September 26, the fourth Saturday of the month, and September 27, a Sunday. This means that customers will not have access to regular branch services for five consecutive days. SBI advises customers to complete any necessary transactions beforehand.

Complete essential tasks before the strike

SBI is encouraging customers to finish their crucial banking activities before the strike commences. While the bank will strive to maintain essential services during the strike, regular branch operations might be impacted. Therefore, it is recommended to conduct tasks like cash withdrawals, deposits, or check transactions in advance to prevent any inconvenience during the five-day closure period.

Utilize ATMs and customer service centers

During the bank closure period, customers can utilize alternative services. SBI suggests using ATMs and Auto Debit and Withdrawal Machines (ADWMs) for cash requirements. Customer Service Centers are also available for assistance. However, the availability of specific services may vary by location and convenience, so customers with urgent banking needs should plan ahead.
