Upcoming Compact SUVs 2026-27 India – The Indian car market now stands at a new turning point. While the hatchback and sedan dominated a few years ago, the compact SUV segment has now become the most bustling ground. High driving positions, strong road presence and family as well as the right size for city use are the reason why companies are constantly betting on new compact SUVs. Hyundai, Tata, Kia, Volkswagen and Renault are about to launch several new carts in this segment during 2026-27, including petrol, ICE and electric all-around options.
Renault Mini Duster
Renault is preparing a brand new sub-four-metre SUV for India, which is being called “Mini Duster” in the industry. This SUV will be positioned under the upcoming New Generation Duster, but its stance will be completely different in terms of design. Mini Duster will adopt a more straightforward, square and muscular style, leaving a soft and round look like Kiger.

Talking about the engine, it is expected to get the same 1.0-liter turbo petrol engine, which is seen in Kiger right now. Both manual and CVT gearbox options can be found. If you look at the launch timeline, this SUV can be seen on the roads in the next year i.e. 2026.

Volkswagen Compact SUV
Volkswagen has been preparing for entry into the Indian compact SUV segment for a long time and now this wait may end around 2027. The company’s upcoming compact SUV will be inspired by Kylaq and based on the MQB A0 IN platform. However, it will not be just a rebadged model, but will see Volkswagen’s own design language.

The SUV is expected to deliver a 1.0-liter TSI turbo petrol engine, which will generate power of around 114 bhp and torque of 178 Nm. This can become an interesting option for those who like performance, especially for those who want a little more fun driving.

Tata Punch EV Facelift
Tata Motors’ Punch EV has already been recognized in the electric micro SUV segment and now its facelift version is going to launch on 20 February 2026. The company has already shown a glimpse of its exterior design, which offers more direct front face and closed grill design.

This new look makes Punch EV more solid and matured. Front bumpers have received a new scuff plate, while Nexon EV-style aero alloy wheels and new yellow color options add to its charm. Mechanically it will continue to have the same 25 kWh and 35 kWh battery packs, but the interior will see more premium features and new technology.

Hyundai Compact Electric SUV
Hyundai is also working on a new compact electric SUV for India, which has been given the HE1i codename inward. Its launch is believed to be scheduled in 2027. It will come in the EV, sub-four-metre segment and will be inspired by the Global Inster Concept, but will be fully localized according to Indian roads and needs.

This SUV is likely to have two battery options. The standard version is expected to have a real-world range of about 300 to 350 kilometers. Hyundai’s reliability and charging network can make it a strong choice for mass market EV buyers.

Kia Syros EV
Kia is also preparing to land in the entry-level electric SUV segment. This EV, called Syros, can take inspiration from concepts like EV2 in terms of design. It is expected that two battery pack options will also be given in this, so that customers with different needs can be targeted.

Kia’s identity has always been features and interior quality, and Syros EV can also follow this path. Digital displays, connected car technology and modern safety features can make it popular among youth and tech-savvy buyers.
