The Indian automobile industry is now focusing not only on design and mileage, but also on safety standards. In the past few years, the government and automobile companies have made significant progress in vehicle safety. To this end, the Global New Car Assessment Programme (Global NCAP) launched the #SaferCarsForIndia campaign in 2014, aimed at raising awareness among Indian consumers about safe vehicles and encouraging companies to adopt higher safety standards.

Tata Safari and Harrier
Tata Motors’ two flagship SUVs, the Safari and Harrier, have proven to be India’s safest SUVs to date. Both models have received 5-star ratings in the Global NCAP crash test. Both vehicles are built on the same platform and perform exceptionally well in adult and child safety due to their robust structure, stable body, and advanced safety features. The Safari and Harrier scored 33.05 out of 34 in adult occupant protection and 45 out of 49 in child occupant protection. Features like six airbags, ESP, hill hold control, traction control, brake disc wiping, and rollover mitigation are standard.
Nissan Magnite
Nissan’s compact SUV, the Magnite, has also garnered attention for its safety. While the original model received only a 2-star rating, the updated version has now achieved a 5-star rating. It received 32.31 out of 34 for adult occupant protection and 33.64 out of 49 for child occupant protection. The Nissan Magnite now comes standard with features like six airbags, electronic stability control, and ESC, making it one of the safest SUVs in its segment.
Tata Nexon
The Tata Nexon was the first car in the Indian market to receive a 5-star rating from Global NCAP. Since 2018, this model has consistently ranked among the top safety ratings. The latest version scored 32.22 points for adult occupant protection and 44.92 points for child occupant protection. It includes features like six airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control, hill hold assist, and brake disc wiping. Its robust body and stable frame make it one of India’s most reliable sub-4-meter SUVs.
Maruti Suzuki Dzire
Maruti Suzuki’s new-generation Dzire sedan also received a 5-star safety rating. It scored 31.24 points for adult occupant protection and 39.20 points for child occupant protection. This is Maruti’s first car to receive a five-star rating. The Dzire features six airbags, hill hold assist, electronic stability control, and pedestrian protection.

Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus
Both the Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus sedans are based on the same platform, and both received a 5-star rating from Global NCAP. They scored 29.71 points in adult occupant safety and 42 points in child occupant safety. Both cars feature features like six airbags, electronic stability control, traction control, auto hill hold, and three-point seat belts for all passengers.
