Toyota has always been known for its reliable and powerful SUVs. Now, the Japanese auto giant is working on a new lifestyle SUV, which could be called the Land Cruiser FJ or FJ Cruiser. This new SUV is set to be the smallest and most affordable model under the Land Cruiser nameplate yet, and is primarily targeted at the Asian market. According to recent reports in Japanese media, this SUV could be launched in February 2026, although Toyota has not yet made an official announcement.

Design and Size

Leaked patent images showed that the new FJ Cruiser would feature a boxy and utilitarian design. It will feature strong front fenders, thick C-pillars and vertical rear end, with a spare wheel fitted to the tailgate. The length of the SUV is about 4.4 meters and the wheelbase is likely to be 2,580mm. In addition, the FJ Cruiser will have a water wading capacity of up to 800mm, making it perfect for off-roading.

Interiors and Features

The cabin layout of the new Toyota FJ Cruiser may be similar to the Hilux Champ, but it will see more modern and feature rich designs. Its integrators will have better fit and finishing, higher NVH levels and advanced technology such as a 360 degree camera, which will also capture the area under the car.

Engine and Power

The new Toyota FJ Cruiser is likely to offer a 2.7L, 4-cylinder 2TR-FE petrol engine, which generates 161bhp and 246Nm of torque and can be offered with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. In addition, it may also be given the option of a 2.0L petrol hybrid engine, as we saw in the Innova Hycross Hybrid. The diesel version is expected to use a 2.0L turbo unit, which increases its reliability.

Performance

The Toyota FJ Cruiser will feature a full-time 4WD system, delivering torque to the front and rear wheels in a ratio of 40:60. Simultaneously, the center differential and torsion LSD rear axle will be found, which will make driving easier on the rough road as well. The SUV will also have a choice of Multiple Driving Modes such as ECO/NORMAL and Sport.
