Maruti Suzuki’s dominance in the Indian automobile market is not hidden from anyone. While vehicles like Wagon R and Grand Vitara are making a splash, the continuously falling sales of S-Presso remain a matter of concern for the company. The sales of this small hatchback included in Maruti’s lineup are continuously declining. Even in March 2025, it has got only 1,788 customers. What is the reason behind the declining popularity of S-Presso, let’s know.

Maruti Suzuki has not yet made any official comment on this decline in sales of S-Presso. However, experts believe that this car has not received any major update for a long time and its price is also slightly higher than some of its competitors. This is the reason why customers are now preferring other cars. So let’s take a look at the price, engine, and specifications of Maruti S-Presso to understand whether this car is not meeting the expectations of the customers.

Price and variants

The starting ex-showroom price of this amazing hatchback in the Indian market is around 4.26 lakh rupees. At the same time, its top-end variant is priced at ₹ 6.12 lakh (ex-showroom). If you want to buy S-Presso CNG, then you will have to pay ₹ 5.91 lakh (ex-showroom) for it. In terms of price, this car is somewhat close to other vehicles in its segment, but perhaps the lack of features and updates is attracting customers to the other side.

Engine and mileage

Maruti S-Presso offers the option of a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission with a 1-liter petrol engine. This hatchback is also available with a CNG option, which gets the same engine. However, only a 5-speed manual transmission is available with CNG.

Maruti claims that the petrol model of the S-Presso is capable of giving mileage of 24.12 to 25.30 km, and the CNG model can give a mileage of up to 32.73 kmpl. With 14-inch wheels, this car also gets good ground clearance, which can prove to help drive it on bad roads. This car certainly does not disappoint in terms of mileage.

Features and Safety

The interior of the Maruti S-Presso has features like a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, semi-digital instrument cluster, front powered windows and keyless entry. For safety, it has features like dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensor and hill hold assist. However, in today’s time, customers expect more modern features and better safety, and perhaps on this front the S-Presso is lagging a bit.
