Car Insurance: Not certain if your vehicle is still insured? It’s more prevalent than you may believe—particularly with old or used cars. But you don’t have to worry as there are easy online ways that assist you in checking your vehicle insurance status within a minute. Here’s how you can check from home, without any paperwork inconvenience.
Check via VAHAN Portal
The official VAHAN portal is one of the simplest manners through which you can verify your vehicle’s insurance status online. This is particularly convenient if you do not have the policy document or when checking insurance on a second-hand vehicle.
Start by visiting the VAHAN website at https://vahan.parivahan.gov.in. From the menu, choose “Know Your Vehicle Details.” Enter your car’s registration number and the captcha code displayed. Once submitted, you’ll see a page showing all your car details, including the insurance expiry date.
Check Through Insurance Company Website or App
If you have the name of your insurance company, you can go straight to their site or launch their app. It works best if you bought the insurance yourself and have the details of the company still at your disposal.
On the website, look for options like “Renew Policy” or “Check Policy Status.” Enter your vehicle number or policy number. After this, you’ll receive an OTP on your registered mobile number. Once verified, you’ll get full details like current insurance status, expiry date, and coverage info.
Use Insurance Aggregator Platforms
Third-party policy platforms like Policybazaar, InsuranceDekho, or Coverfox also let users check existing insurance information. These platforms are particularly helpful if your policy was purchased through a broker or online intermediary.
Open the site of the platform and choose the option that reads “Check Existing Policy” or “Renew Existing Policy.” Enter your car number and mobile number. OTP will be sent for verification. After getting verified, complete insurance details will be displayed instantly.
Employ DigiLocker or SMS Alerts
If you’ve connected your vehicle documents with DigiLocker, you can log in and see your insurance details right under the car section. Most insurance firms also set timely SMS reminders prior to policy expiry. So if you’ve registered your number properly, you might already have received a reminder.
