Hyundai’s big strategy

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) shared information in May this year that it will launch 26 new models by 2030. This will include new cars, mid-life facelifts and new generation updates. Recently the company has confirmed that eight of these models will come with Hybrid Powertrain, three to four of which will be SUVs. At the same time, Hyundai will also launch a Compact Electric SUV in 2027, designed specifically for India.

ICE Segment

Along with Electric and Hybrid, Hyundai is also working on its ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) models. The company will introduce its small SUV Exter in 2026 in a facelift avatar. At the same time, next-gen Creta (codename SX3) will be launched in 2027. This SUV is expected to come up with its old petrol and diesel engine options.

In addition, a new Bayon Crossover SUV from Hyundai will also enter the Indian market in 2026. It will have a 1.2-liter turbo-petrol engine, which the company is developing exclusively in India.

Compact EV SUV

Hyundai will launch a Compact Electric SUV in 2027 to strengthen its electric segment. According to reports, this SUV will be based on the Inster EV and will be built on the E-GMP (K) platform in India. This sub-4-meter size vehicle will directly compete with the Tata Punch EV.

Its codename HE1i is placed, and will be available in two battery pack options. With this the company will also offer premium features like Level 2 ADAS, infotainment system with OTA updates.

Hybrid Segment

Hyundai is also working extensively on Hybrid Technology. The company’s first hybrid SUV may be Bayon in India. It will have the same new 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine used as the base, which can also be given later in Venue and other SUVs.

In addition, next-gen Creta will also receive a strong hybrid powertrain, which will be prepared at the local level to keep costs down. At the same time Hyundai is also working on a 7-seater hybrid SUV (codename Ni1i), which will compete with Mahindra XUV700 and Tata Safari.
