Toyota Fortuner: For over a decade, Toyota Fortuner has been the undisputed king of the full-size SUV market in India. Others such as Ford Endeavour, Pajero and Jeep Meridian attempted but couldn’t put an end to its reign. Now the market is about to enter a new era as three huge SUVs are coming forth. They are MG Majestor, Volkswagen Tayron and the long-awaited Ford Endeavour return.
MG Majestor
MG Motor India is preparing to introduce its new flagship SUV, Majestor. The model was recently unveiled at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. It will be retailed through premium MG Select dealerships. Surprisingly, the current Gloster will also survive even after Majestor launches. Based on the China-spec Maxus D90, this SUV will come with dual 12.3-inch displays, Level-2 ADAS and advanced safety features. Under the hood, it will feature a 2.0L twin-turbo diesel engine.
Volkswagen Tayron
Volkswagen is also preparing to launch its 7-seater SUV Tayron. It is seen as a larger version of the Tiguan and has already been spotted testing on Indian roads several times. Reports suggest that the company could introduce it by October 2025. Power will come from a 2.0L turbo-petrol engine. Another key highlight is that the SUV might be locally assembled at Volkswagen’s Aurangabad plant, making it a competitive offering in the premium SUV category.
Ford Endeavour
Ford is gearing up for a return to India by 2026, and the Endeavour will be at the forefront of this initiative. Famous for its rugged off-road ability, luxurious features and ride quality with splendid smoothness, Endeavour has always had a dedicated fan base. When Ford brings it back, the SUV can become the biggest threat to Fortuner all over again. Its return would be a significant turning point for the segment and provide consumers with a tested alternative.
