Advance Salary: If you work for the central government, here’s something important for you! Your September salaries and pensions are coming your way on Friday, September 25, 2026. The Finance Ministry shared this update on Wednesday, and it’s being treated as an early payment. Once your actual monthly salary, wages, and pension amounts are confirmed, any needed adjustments will be made from your October 2026 paycheck. This applies to everyone in central government service, including those working in defense, postal, and telecommunications.

What’s the reason behind this move?
The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has announced a three-day nationwide bank strike scheduled for September 28th to 30th, 2026. On top of the strike itself, banking services could face disruptions over several days because of the weekend on September 26th and 27th. That said, the government has asked banks to keep their doors open on Sunday, September 27th.

The strike is still happening September 28-30.
Just so you know, bank unions throughout the country are sticking with their plan for a three-day nationwide strike from September 28 to 30. They’re pushing for a five-day work week in banks. D.N. Trivedi, National Secretary of the All India Bank Officers’ Association, confirmed this on Wednesday. Trivedi mentioned that a conciliation meeting held with the Central Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner didn’t lead to any agreement. During that meeting, both the government and the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) held firm on their positions. The main goal of the bank employee groups is to get a five-day work week approved. Right now, employees get holidays on the second and fourth Saturdays, but the unions want every Saturday off.

Cash deposits, cash withdrawals, passbook updates, check clearing, and other branch-based services at public sector bank branches may be affected during the strike. However, digital services such as internet banking, mobile banking, and ATMs will continue to operate normally.

Trivedi said that various banks, from the State Bank of India to regional rural banks, have issued advisories through social media and customer messages, urging customers to complete their essential banking work by September 25. He said the strike could also impact the operations of private banks.

Meanwhile, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has permitted bank branches, ATM linked branches, and currency chests across the country to remain operational on Sunday, September 27, 2026, so that banking services to the general public are not affected. The RBI has directed that banks should keep their branches, offices, ATM linked branches, and currency chests fully operational on Sunday, while adhering to the relevant legal provisions.
