AC Local Train: Great news for the millions of daily commuters on Mumbai’s local trains! The oppressive humidity will no longer be a bother during your travels. Your entire journey will be refreshing, ensuring you arrive at work in high spirits. In response to the long-standing requests from passengers, the Central Railway has announced the conversion of 12 additional non-AC local trains on the main line into AC local trains. These new services will commence on Monday.
Dr. Swapni Neela, the Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railway, mentioned that with this change, the total number of AC local trains on Central Railway will rise to 120. Out of these, 92 AC services will operate on the Main Line, while 28 will serve the Harbour Line.
As part of this new setup, 12 extra AC services will be added to the main line, with six trains in each direction. This includes several trains during the busy morning and evening hours, enhancing convenience for commuters traveling to and from work. In the up direction, trains from Titwala to CSMT, Ghatkopar to CSMT, Kurla to CSMT, Thane to CSMT, and Kalyan to Kurla will be upgraded to AC service. Similarly, in the down direction, trains from Thane to Titwala, CSMT to Ghatkopar, Kurla, Thane, and Kalyan will also be equipped with AC racks.
Central Railway has specified that these 12 AC services will operate only from Monday to Saturday. On Sundays and designated holidays, these trains will revert to non-AC racks as they did previously. With this adjustment, the number of AC local trains on the Main Line will increase from 80 to 92 on weekdays, while 28 AC services will continue to run on the Harbor Line as usual. As a result, a total of 120 AC local services will be available on both the Main and Harbor Lines of the Mumbai Division from Monday to Friday.
The Central Railway says this decision was made keeping in mind the increasing heat and passenger convenience. This will provide more comfortable travel options for commuters traveling during rush hour. However, the total number of 1,820 suburban services operating daily on all lines of the Mumbai division will remain the same.
