The central government has taken a major initiative to ensure that families living below the poverty line in the country can easily get cooking gas or LPG. On May 1, 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Ujjwala Yojana scheme. Its main objective is to provide clean cooking fuel to poor families who are vulnerable to various health risks related to indoor air pollution and to bring about a qualitative change in the lifestyle of BPL families. And now, Union Minister of State for Petroleum Suresh Gopi has revealed some important information about this Ujjwala Yojana scheme.
Prices of domestic gas cylinders have not increased
At present, the central government has not changed the prices of domestic LPG cylinders in the country. The prices of domestic LPG gas cylinders have remained the same since August 2024. But the prices of commercial gas cylinders are gradually increasing. At the beginning of this month, i.e. on March 1, the prices of commercial cylinders of oil companies were increased by Rs 6. But there has been no change in the prices of domestic LPG cylinders. Currently, the price of a 14 kg domestic gas cylinder is Rs 803 in Delhi, Rs 829 in Kolkata and Rs 802.50 in Mumbai. Now Suresh Gopi has revealed some big information about it.
60 percent gas import in India
Recently, a question was asked in the Lok Sabha by the opposition party regarding LPG gas cylinders. In response to that question, Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Suresh Gopi said in a written reply that the price of LPG in the country is related to the international market price. Meanwhile, India imports about 60 percent of its domestic LPG consumption. In all, the price of LPG in the international market has increased by 63 percent. The central government is providing gas cylinders at cheap prices to the beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.

Also, today in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister Suresh Gopi said that the central government is supplying gas cylinders priced at Rs 903 at Rs 503 from August 2023. Meanwhile, while a 14.2 kg domestic gas cylinder is available for Rs 803, the beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana are getting this cylinder for Rs 503.
