New Way to Pay Toll Tax Begins, Now Tolls Deducted Without Stopping at Toll Plazas

Toll Tax New Rule: India’s road network is rapidly expanding, and millions of vehicles travel long distances every day. However, stopping at toll plazas has been a major problem for travelers. Even after the introduction of FASTag, long queues and traffic jams are still common in many places. Now, the government and highway agencies are working to eliminate this problem through new technology. As part of this effort, the implementation of a barrier-free toll system has begun in the country.

According to reports, a trial of the Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) barrier-free toll system has started at the Choryasi toll plaza in Surat, Gujarat, allowing vehicles to pass through the highway without stopping, and the toll will be deducted automatically.

India’s First Barrier-Free Toll System Launched in Surat

This new technology is being tested at the Choryasi toll plaza located on the Bharuch-Surat highway section in Surat. This system is designed to provide uninterrupted travel for those using the highway. This technology aims to reduce traffic congestion, save fuel, and make the logistics sector more efficient.

This system is being implemented under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and after successful testing, it can be implemented at several other toll plazas across the country.

How the New Toll System Works

This new system uses high-resolution cameras, FASTag scanners, and automatic number plate recognition technology. The cameras read the vehicle’s number plate and automatically deduct the toll amount by matching it with the FASTag data. The vehicle does not need to stop at the toll plaza.

If a vehicle’s FASTag is not working or the payment fails, the system records it, and an e-notice can be sent to the vehicle owner.

What happens if the FASTag Balance is Low or the toll is Not Paid?

If a vehicle has a FASTag but the balance is low or the tag is blacklisted, the system will identify the vehicle. In such cases, an alert can be sent to the owner, and non-payment may result in a fine or other action. The new technology aims to prevent toll evasion and digitize the entire process so that no vehicle can pass without payment.

The system could be implemented nationwide in the future

The government is currently implementing it as a pilot project at select toll plazas. If this technology proves successful, it could be implemented across the entire country in the future. This will reduce travel time and improve traffic flow on highways.
