Women’s Employment Scheme: The Bihar government is implementing the “Chief Minister Women’s Employment Scheme” to empower women and help them achieve self-reliance. The main goal of this initiative is to offer financial support to one woman from each family in the state, enabling her to start a small business or find employment, thus allowing her to earn a living and support her family. Recently, the Nitish Kumar government has broadened the scheme’s scope and announced additional assistance of up to 2 lakh rupees, which was approved during a Bihar cabinet meeting.
In the initial phase of the scheme, each eligible woman received Rs 10,000. To date, this amount has been transferred to the bank accounts of 15.6 million women via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The remaining women in both rural and urban areas will also receive this financial support shortly.
What’s next?
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar shared his delight and announced that the process of providing additional assistance of up to 2 lakh rupees to the women selected under the scheme has commenced. This funding will be available if the women are successfully managing their businesses with the initial Rs 10,000. Their businesses will be evaluated after six months. If everything goes well, this amount may be disbursed in phases or as a lump sum, based on their requirements.
The Nitish government has directed the department to ensure effective marketing of the products created by these women. They should also be involved in government projects, such as producing school and college uniforms, working at the Sudha Dairy sales center, and participating in initiatives like Didi Ki Rasoi, among others.
What are the benefits of this scheme?
Women will gain financial independence. They will discover better job opportunities within the state. This will reduce the need for people to migrate to other states in search of work. Ultimately, this will strengthen both families and society. This scheme is aimed at economic empowerment and self-employment for women in the state of Bihar. The government’s goal is to have a woman in every household become an entrepreneur and self-reliant.
