Monsoon Update – The intense cold from the plains to the mountains has brought life to a standstill, causing difficulties for people. Dense fog blanketed Delhi-NCR and the surrounding areas for two consecutive mornings, causing inconvenience.
The good news is that the sun came out in Western Uttar Pradesh from 10 AM onwards, which people enjoyed by venturing outdoors. Amidst hopes of the winter receding, a worrying piece of news has emerged. A new Western Disturbance has become active, which may lead to a spell of rain in many areas. This is likely to significantly increase the intensity of the cold. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall warning for 9 states from January 22nd to 25th.

Rain Warning in Several North Indian States
According to the IMD, a rain warning has been issued for many parts of North India until January 25th. The Meteorological Department has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall in many areas of Haryana, Uttarakhand, Western Uttar Pradesh, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Strong winds at a speed of 40 kilometres per hour are also expected.
The IMD has predicted rain with lightning in Himachal Pradesh on January 20th. The IMD has issued a heavy rainfall alert for the Western Himalayan region between January 22nd and 24th. Snowfall is also expected. Additionally, a heavy rainfall warning has been issued for Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh during January 20th, 21st, and 23rd. Strong winds at a speed of 50 kilometres per hour are expected to cause further difficulties.

In the national capital, Delhi, the morning temperature is expected to be around 8 degrees Celsius on January 20th. Pleasant sunshine is expected during the afternoon. Light to moderate rain is also expected in the capital from January 23rd onwards. Dense fog is likely to persist in the mornings for the next 3-4 days. Relief from the cold wave is expected soon.

Uttar Pradesh Weather
The Meteorological Department has predicted that a cold wave will continue in 10 districts of Uttar Pradesh today. According to the IMD, winds are expected to blow at a speed of 10 to 15 kilometres per hour in Ayodhya, Kanpur, Lucknow, Bareilly, Barabanki, Agra, Mathura, Aligarh, and Ghaziabad.
The maximum temperature in Lucknow is expected to be around 22 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to be 11 degrees Celsius. A warning for moderate to heavy rainfall has also been issued for January 22nd to 25th.
